Spanish Estates & Inheritances

We advise on all aspects of Spanish probate and inheritances that include Spanish assets and Spanish land. We can investigate whether the deceased left a Will in Spain, in England, or whether there was no Will at all. We can advise on who is entitled to the Spanish estate. We can prepare all of the documentation required in order for the Spanish estate to be administered so that title can pass to the beneficiaries. We can advise on all aspects of Spanish inheritance tax with particular regard to time limits for making voluntary payments, the allowances available to off-set against tax and the amount of tax payable. We regularly act for clients from all over England and Wales in the administration of a Spanish estate and also act as agents for numerous firms of English and Welsh solicitors, handling the Spanish aspects of the Deceased’s estate.

NIE Numbers
Whether you are buying a property, selling a property, opening a bank account, inheriting an asset in Spain or otherwise transferring a Spanish asset, you will need to obtain an NIE number (número de identificación de extranjeros) or Foreigner’s Identity number. This number is required by Spanish law and can be obtained in person from the Spanish police or from the Spanish consulate in London. In some regions NIE numbers can be obtained by a third party holding a valid power of attorney on your behalf and we would be happy to advise you as to what steps and documentation are required on a case-to-case basis.
